These gentle giants can grow up to 100 feet long and weigh over 180 tons, yet they glide silently beneath the surface. Watching one rise slowly to breathe—its vast back breaking the water in smooth, powerful motion—is an awe-inspiring and humbling experience.
During a good sighting, guests often observe:

The massive spout (up to 30 feet high)
-
The long, rolling back and small dorsal fin
-
The deep dive sequence, ending with a majestic tail fluke

Tour boats in Loreto are regulated for whale safety and maintain a respectful distance, usually around 100 meters. However, blue whales sometimes surface or glide past unexpectedly, offering surprisingly close and unforgettable views—all without disturbing their natural behavior.
